DJIA Slides 192 pts or 0.5%; Mkt Awaits Jackson Hole Meeting Result

U.S. stocks retreated as investment sentiment was dented by the terrorist attacks in Afghanistan. The market's apprehension over the Federal Reserve's taper on QE likewise intensified as the investors await the speech of the Fed's chairman Jerome Powell at the Jackson Hole Symposium.

Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 192.38 pts, or 0.5%, to close at 35,213.12.

Standard & Poor's 500 Index slumped 26.19 pts, or 0.6%, to close at 4,470.

Nasdaq Composite Index dropped 96.05 pts, or 0.6%, to close at 14,945.81.

Boeing (BA.US) dropped 2.1%, worst among the DJIA constituent stocks. Nike (NKE.US), Walgreens (WBA.US), Caterpillar (CAT.US) and The Travelers Companies (TRV.US) all lost 1.6-1.7%. Salesforce (CRM.US) rose 2.7%.
