Niuniu knocks on the blackboard: analyst Munster estimates: "by 2031, we believe that FSD subscription alone will generate as much as $159 billion in revenue and $102 billion in operating profit for Tesla, Inc.." "
Electric car maker Tesla, Inc. is scheduled to hold its 2021 "AI Day" on Aug. 19 and has sent out an invitation to the event. As for the theme of the event, analysts believe that autopilot will be the highlight.
Will AI Day be an extension of Autopilot Day?
Gene Munster, managing partner of Loup Funds, a famous venture capital firm in Silicon Valley, said in a report.Tesla, Inc. 's "AI Day" is more likely to become the second "Autopilot Day", because autopilot is the main application of AI technology in Tesla, Inc..
While Elon Musk, Tesla, Inc. 's chief executive, has set an ambitious goal of achieving full autopilot by the end of 2021, Mr Munster says 2025 is likely to be the first year of L4 autopilot's public appearance. Munster pointed out that the "AI Day" private reply to the invitation shows that the event will showcase Tesla, Inc. 's AI use case outside the car.
Munster said this resonated with Mr Musk's comments on the earnings call in the first quarter of this year. 'in the long run, people will see Tesla, Inc. not only as a car company or an energy company, but also as a "AI robot" company, Musk said at the time.
Munster pointed out that since the "Autopilot Day" in 2019, Tesla, Inc. has undergone two significant changes:
First, Tesla, Inc. announced in May that his Model 3 and Model Y models will no longer rely on radar, but will use camera vision and neural network processing to provide Autopilot, fully autonomous driving (FSD) and some active safety features.
Second, the analyst pointed out that Tesla, Inc. announced a change in the price of FSD subscription services in July, from an one-time prepaid price of $10, 000 to $200 a month, while car owners who have already spent money on Autopilot pay only $99 a month.
Munster estimates: "by 2031, we believe that FSD subscriptions alone will generate as much as $159 billion in revenue and $102 billion in operating profit for Tesla, Inc.." "
Will Dojo update be ushered in on "AI Day"?
Munster said Tesla, Inc. may update his supercomputer Dojo on AI Day. "Dojo is still under development and will eventually replace Tesla, Inc. 's existing supercomputer, which is used to train the neural networks that power Autopilot and FSD software," the analyst wrote in the report. "
The analyst also pointed to Musk's comments that he would eventually let other companies use Dojo to train their own neural networks.
So, will Tesla, Inc. use AI to enter new markets? In response, the analyst said that Tesla, Inc. may extend the AI application beyond fully autopilot.
He added that this was in line with Tesla, Inc. 's broader strategy to use the software and hardware expertise he had built in the automotive industry to enter new markets such as battery storage, HVAC, insurance and truck logistics.
Tesla, Inc. shares closed down 2.17 per cent at $699.1 on Friday, but had previously risen 1.7 per cent.
