DJ Disney Streaming Service Surpasses 100M Global Subscribers -- Market Talk
1452 ET - Disney says its direct-to-consumer streaming platform Disney+ has signed up more than 100M subscribers worldwide since launching nearly 16 months ago. Besides the company making the service available in North America, consumers in Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Latin America, and Singapore also have access to the platform. Disney+, buoyed by Star Wars and Marvel shows plus new movie releases during the pandemic--films like "Mulan," "Soul" and "Raya and the Last Dragon"--is quickly gaining on the world's largest streaming service, Netflix, which has more than 200M subscribers. "The enormous success of Disney+...has inspired us to be even more ambitious, and to significantly increase our investment in the development of high-quality content," says Disney CEO Bob Chapek. "In fact, we set a target of 100+ new titles per year." Disney shares off 2.7%. (RT.Watson@wsj.com)
